We’ve been wanting to have baby’s ears pierced for a long time but we’re hesitant because we’re not sure how safe it would be for her. She is now exploring with her hands and might take off the earrings herself and put them in her mouth. She sleeps on her side too and I know that doesn’t mix well with having a new piecing. So I am stuck with looking for the perfect, baby-friendly pair for now. I have a fondness for earrings too. I came upon this site with rubber necklaces and other stainless steel accessories which has very modern and minimalist designs; fortunately, the earrings that they have are not in my price range and not for babies so this search ends in “just looking” for me.

I was reading a mutual friends blog and saw your comment about wanting to have your dd’s ears pierced too.Don’t know if you went ahead and had your dd’s ears pierced yet.
We did our dd early after asking our ped who encouraged me to go ahead when she couldn’t play with her ears and mommy could care for them. She did her dd at 6 wks too and with other moms asking her about some tips and ideas, she put together some suggestions for moms having their dd’s ears pierced which included some OTC meds to minimize any discomfort. She recommended Piercing Pagoda where they use baby safety backs so they won’t come off and get into her mouth. Our ped says to use 14kt gold ball earrings which are super “baby friendly” and leave them in for 4-6 mos before changing. That gives you plenty of time to find a newer pair for her.
I think you’re a smart mommy for wanting to pierce her ears now. Promise she’ll thank you later and won’t remember having them done.
Write me if you’d like them. Hope I haven’t offended you by writing you. When I wanted them done, I was searching for info and thought might be interested too.

Thanks for the info! Will take note of those. As of now she’s still nursing & sleeps on her side so her ears are still not pierced =)
