Hair Care Tips from Me

For the first time, Fedhz has joined Girls Talk; and when I saw her entry, I wanted to say so much in the comment area that I decided it would be better to write a full post instead. She has so many hair care products because she and her mom are worried about her thinning hair. I wanted to tell her what I do with my hair, then noticed that I know A LOT about hair… A bit obsessed?!

I have brown, straight, fine hair of, what I consider, average thickness (but my girls are often amazed how much hair I have, LOL). Never been treated with hot oil or dyes, relaxed or anything like that. It’s luckily wash -and-wear. I do get a lot of hair on the floor when I clean up (occasionally) and my major problem is dryness and split ends. Well, I am no hair-care guru but most people seem to like my hair. I’d be happy to share some of the things that I know and practice which may also help keep your hair healthy and beautiful…

  • I brush my hair before washing it or taking a bath. This prevents them from tangling and makes shampooing easier.
  • When shampooing and conditioning, I use gentle, circular and downward strokes. I hate wet, tangled hair.
  • People say it’s better to shampoo with your hair upsidedown, or whatever you may call that, and start applying your shampoo on the hair on your nape. This way, if your hair products harm your hair and cause balding, it will start on your nape which is a lot less noticeable than the hair line on the forehead. I don’t do that though, I get headaches from doing that.
  • I pull my hair up in a bun with no pins (it holds up) and leave my conditioner on for about a minute and do something else, like exfoliate or brush my teeth ;p
  • Be sure to apply more conditioner on the ends of your hair to prevent split ends.
  • Don’t scrub your hair with a towel like a mad man, just damp it dry and wrap it.
  • Use a wide-toothed comb for wet hair as it is more prone to breakage.
  • Air drying is always better than blow drying. It will save you a lot on electric bills and time too.
  • Avoid pulling you hair in a pony tail too much. Emphasis on pulling makes this self-explanatory.
  • I also don’t sleep with my hair tied up because my scalp ends up sore in the morning and I notice more hair fall.
  • Some natural remedy for thinning hair are aloe vera and coconut oil.

There… I hope this helps. Imagine if I said all that in a comment. ;p
