GT – (No) Childhood Friend

As much as I hate to break the streak (this is just my second GT post), I may just have to… This week on Girls Talk, we’re supposed to post pictures with our childhood friends. I DON’T HAVE ONE! I don’t have a childhood friend, thus I don’t have a picture too! Boo hoo!

Here’s why… I grew up in Cavite City. We live in a house built by my grandmother’s winning sweepstakes ticket, on a lot that is rightfully owned by my grandfather. (patience, these information are relevant) I think it’s quite common, especially in provinces, for lots intended for siblings to inherit to be close together, and that’s how my grandfolks’ lots were. In short, we lived in a compound. My neighbors were my aunts and uncles and my playmates were my cousins. Thus, NO CHILDHOOD FRIEND! Some kids would come over a few times and some time or another, a house would be leased to some families, but during those times, there weren’t any special occasion to prompt some adult to pull out a camera and take a picture.

So there. I’m bitter. I just realized that I have no childhood friend. Not one.

And I’m disqualified from this week’s GT. Hmp!

UPDATE!

I was browsing through the GT entries this week and even Niko posted a picture with her cousins. So I guess, like Kaye also pointed out on a comment (see below), cousins count. I browsed through my Facebook account and saw some old pictures there. Here goes!

On the left is a photo of me and my cousin Laidee. Born only half a year apart, we were practically sisters. We were even dressed in identical outfits, just with different colors when we went to hear mass or on special holidays. We learned a lot together as kids and did a lot of stupid things too! Hihi! We were inseparable until adult life led us to different countries. Now, we’re half the world apart. :’(

Below is another picture of us. I remember this was taken near my aunt’s place in Noveleta, Cavite. Notice that we are sporting the same haircut, my cousin only had less bangs. Why the heck did I have my hand on that cow’s fat belly?! It could’ve kicked the skinny kid that I was to the next town! Crazy! (OK. All of a sudden, I realized that this month’s GT would reveal my evolution from that stick figure of a kid to the present me.) FYI: We weren’t abused or malnourished kids; somehow our bodies only looked like they refused to absorb the nutrients in all the food that we were fed, but we were fairly healthy.

Here’s another photo taken on my cousin Kuya Aljoe’s birthday (he’s the boy whose wide grin shines from behind). I don’t know most of these kids because we were all guests at the party. The one holding the red balloon, is Macky (my kuya’s cousin from the other side of his family); next to her, the girl who’s not wearing a lot of pink, is moi; then my brother Paolo in stripes and bangs (LOL); Aileen, the celebrant’s sister, is in the blue sleeveless shirt; and then we have Laidee again, wearing just a paler pink outfit.

Now head over to Girls Rule to see more photos like these from the rest of the girls. And come back in the next weeks of this month and watch me put on some weight. A lot of it! LOL! Toodles!
