Happy Holidays (better late than never!)

Well, the holidays weren’t what I would call “perfect” for us; that’s because while everybody was wishing each other better health and a beautiful life, we were actually sick. Hubby had a sore throat around the 23rd of December and you guessed what Santa gave him for Christmas: cough and colds. And then, on New Year’s eve, my throat began hurting a little and I felt awfully weak. But I managed to cook something for Media Noche and eat a little too.
Since this post is a tad too late, I can not remember all the details (like one night, the air outside stinked like a skunk and the heater sucked in all the bad air that we wished we had an electric fireplace instead) I wanted to write about. But I’d hate to leave 2009 without a holiday post at least… So I picked a few pictures to talk about (thought it’s be easier that way).
Christmas presents! For a household of six plus three, you may think these are too many. That’s because the siblings pranked each other with “joke” gifts. We bought the girls $1 Barbie dolls & the boys water guns, LOL. They gave us candies and soda. And we took the time to wrap all those neatly. We also had multiple gifts for the little tot… Since he’s now two and can appreciate opening gifts. More than that, we thought he could assess the gifts too when he exclaimed with a “YES!” -instead of his regular “Wow!” upon seeing that his uncle gave him a portable DVD player.
Here they are, what I think triggered my sore-throat-turned-full-blast-cough. Sour candy in fancy tins… Similar to the Toads in Super Mario Wii which is our current addiction. Hubby’s pasalubong to me one lazy, video-gaming afternoon…
Media Noche for two! Fruits courtesy of the MIL. We decided on just having pancit canton and hotdogs (which we imagined were grilled like we would have them in the Philippines, but were actually cooked in the oven toaster). We didn’t eat much because of our uncooperative, sick throats. But this was our first New Year’s eve in our apartment, just the two of us, so it was pretty memorable and special.
So there, Happy New Year everyone! We didn’t look sick in these pictures, but we were…
I’m feeling a bit better today, and I hope this is the end of my illness and the beginning of another great year…
