Extra Rice Please!

Rice is a staple food in almost every Filipino dining table. Frequenting the apartment home of my in-laws in San Francisco, where my husband’s extended family (another Filipino trait) resides, I can not be oblivious to their household’s consumption of rice, which is naturally a lot larger than our own (I live with just my husband, just the two of us).
Having to buy rice often has a lot of down-sides. One, it can get expensive; especially the kinds that are imported by the U.S. from some Asian countries, the kind that we Filipinos usually prefer. Two, it would be wise to buy it in bulk because this will somehow lessen the price, but it would also be heavy and difficult to haul to your trunk then into your house. Three, if you have a large family of rice consumers, you will be forced to either buy frequently or stock up large amounts.
Bulk Foods Direct offers brown rice, which is a healthier alternative to white, polished rice because it still has the protective fiber that helps in digestion and keeps our intestines healthy. Buying rice and other food products such as lentils, oats and whey, from Bulk Foods Direct helps us save money because they are sold at supplier prices (that solves issue #1) and we save on gas and time too because they can be ordered online and are delivered to our homes (solves issues #2 & #3). How convenient and efficient is that? With that we can have all the fried rice, arroz caldo and kakanin (rice treats) we want. Or we can simply ask for extra rice (only in the Philippines)!

That's really cool. I use Whey Protein from Bulkfoodsdirect.com in a lot of my recipes to make it more filling and healthier and to lower the glycemic index (I'm diabetic). I wonder if Philippino foods would be good with some extra protein in there. Definitely worth an experiment or two :)

Thanks for leaving a comment and for that info, Mandy! Didn't know that Whey Protein is good for diabetics. There are a lot of Filipino food which are grain-based, I bet there's room for some protein whey. Let me know if you cooked up something great!
